Niece's Story

Niece Portrait

Deniece “Niece” Janean Waidhofer was born August 27, 1990, in Houston, Texas, into a lively, fun-loving family consisting of her parents, three siblings, and an interesting mix of pets.

Niece loved animals—dogs most of all, especially her cherished Puff, who had his own Instagram account. Fellow white Pomeranians Boujee, Boo, and Brutus joined the clan later. Niece excelled at school from kindergarten on, graduating summa cum laude from Sam Houston State University.

She began her career working as a medical assistant for her dad’s dermatology practice until dreams of becoming a model and actor called. She appeared in several magazines and landed parts in two movies. But acting and modeling were harsh worlds to conquer.

To help her through, she developed herself as a social media influencer, making the most of her many talents. She did her own photography, editing, and marketing. The brand she built attracted an incredible 4.2 million followers who appreciated her quick wit and refreshing lack of ego.

Niece’s clinical depression and anxiety began at 14. She tried many medicines, treatments, and therapies over the years. Some helped for a while, but not long-term. Niece was open with her followers about her mental health disorders and freely offered help and encouragement to those with similar issues.

Despite her success, fame, and being loved by millions, Niece lost her will to live.

In the days before her death, family and fans alike saw signs of distress. Niece scrubbed her Instagram account of more than 600 photos and captions, leaving only her three most meaningful photos: an image from her engagement to the love of her life, one of her lovingly singing to Puff, and one of Niece with her original blonde hair color rather than her trademark black hair.

Sadly, Niece found her peace through suicide at age 31, which devastated her family, friends, and followers. None of our lives will ever be the same. We aim to help those living with a mental illness find their peace while still on earth and live productive, meaningful lives through funds raised in Niece’s honor.
